What is Flashbeat?
A web app that turns every phone in a crowd into one sign. You type a message, and everyone who joins sees it flash on their screen at the same instant.
Do people need to download an app?
No. Flashbeat runs in the phone’s web browser. Open the link and you’re in. There’s nothing to get from an app store.
Do I need an account?
Not to create, share or join a flash. You only need an account to buy an Event Pass.
Safety
Is it safe for people with photosensitive epilepsy?
Flashbeat is capped at three flashes per second — the WCAG 2.3.1 photosensitivity threshold — and cannot be set faster.
Running it at an event
How do people join?
Three ways: scan the QR code, open the link, or tap the flash when it shows up on their screen as nearby. At an event, the fastest way is to have whoever is on the mic tell everyone to open flashbeat.app and tap “See what’s flashing around you.”
How many phones can join?
As many as you have. There’s no cap on the free version or the Event Pass.
What if someone joins late?
They pick up on the current beat. Every phone runs off the same server clock, so latecomers land in sync with everyone else.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Flashbeat works on iPhone and Android phones, and in web browsers on laptops and desktops too.
Does it need Wi-Fi?
Phones need a data connection, either Wi-Fi or cell signal, to join. After that, each phone keeps the beat on its own, so a patchy signal mid-flash won’t throw it off. It does need a connection to pick up any change you make to the message.
How long does a flash link last?
It never expires. Run it once, or every game of the season.
Pricing
Is Flashbeat free?
Yes. Creating, sharing and joining a flash are free, with unlimited phones. An optional $39 Event Pass removes the Flashbeat mark for 24 hours and adds your own logo.
What does the $39 Event Pass add?
For 24 hours, the Flashbeat mark comes off every screen and your logo goes on in its place. It doesn’t change how many phones can join. That’s unlimited either way. You also get a printable QR poster.
